On a sunny spring evening a group participated in a relaxing cruise as part of the SocialprescribED Tastival. We had a taster of the social prescribing 6-week programme we have offered on board for the past two semesters.
Our guests this time were those who might make referrals to us such as Community Link Workers, Wellbeing Advisors, Student Support Officers, Social Workers, GPs, Occupational Health Therapists, Counselling Services, Community Mental Health Services and any relevant charities e.g. SAMH
The UoE Prescribe Culture service is open to referrals and available to individuals, 18+, across Edinburgh’s student and non-student communities, for those seeking non-clinical support for mental health and/or for those who may benefit from the opportunity to connect in a small group, structured, socialising context.
We cruised on the narrow boat “Waterwitch” on the Union Canal between the Leamington Lift Bridge the Slateford aqueduct. We enjoyed tasters of wildlife watching, mindful canal colouring, boat steering skills as well as hot drinks and snacks together and of course sitting on deck watching the world go by and feeling the pace of life slow down.
Passengers on board are looked after by our trained volunteer crew. Our bigger boat the Lochrin Belle is fully accessible with a wheelchair lift and accessible toilet, Waterwitch is accessed via 4 steps and our crew are always on hand to help folks aboard safely. Please get in touch with any questions about accessibility.
